Hi all!

So we had a lot of changes happen at the end of last summer— I decided to go back to school to pursue a teaching career and our infinitely awesome photographer Karen decided to move to Brooklyn to pursue her photography career. I’m happy to say I’m just one semester away from being a real life elementary school teacher and Karen is absolutely pwning her career in New York— she works for a photographer in Manhattan and continues to shoot weddings independently all over the east coast. She even shot my wedding in September!

As you can tell, with all these changes, Pickpocket fell to the wayside but my closet continued to burst at the seams. I’ve been waiting to have a little extra time to get some new stuff onto the site and now that my wedding is over, I finally do!

Even though Pickpocket isn’t going to be as fancy as it was when Karen lived in the same apartment as me and we had the luxury of inviting our friends over for Tuesday night photo shoots in our living room, I hope you’ll still browse and hopefully find something that you love. As always, just email PickpocketShop@gmail.com if you see something you want and I’ll make it happen.

If you know me, you know I have a serious weakness for all things nautical. I’m rarely seen without my trusty gold anchor necklace on and I’m prone to buying anything striped that crosses my path in a store. Lately I’ve been on a quest for more nautical jewelry and in that search, I came across Odette New York’s Etsy shop. I’m REALLY into their Coral Cufflinks and Kissing Seahorse Necklace but I’ve also had my eye on some pieces that aren’t under-the-sea themed. There are tons of adorable and quirky charms but I think the Bullet Hole Necklace has to be my favorite— it’s such a gorgeous piece and so interesting too.

Anna is the girl behind the site which she says if it were a college course, it’d be called “The Sociology of Dudes.” One of my favorite things Anna has created recently was this “Bad Date Bingo” card. Man, I would’ve had a field day with this game in my heyday… but luckily, Anna also got me off the market by introducing me to my awesome boyfriend. Boyfriend Stylist Challenge: Kristin’s Day 4 Look

All the way from Boston, we have Kristin’s Day 4 Outfit! Despite going away on vacation for the last day of the challenge, Dave still planned out Kristin’s outfit. These shorts (handmade by Miss Kristin herself) were originally paired with a short sleeve shirt but considering the 60 degree weather in Boston, Dave decided instead on a long sleeved tee and tights (phew). So travel chic. Kristin must have been the cutest girl at Fenway, hands down.

Boyfriend Stylist Challenge: Lauren’s Day 4 Look

Behold my day 4 outfit! Phil decided to dress me in black to mourn the end of the boyfriend stylist challenge and then added some sparkle for good measure (he was throwing around the word bling a lot…) I’ve never worn this black romper before. It’s too much of a business suit/romper hybrid. I’ve also never worn my sparkly silver Keds before (mostly because when I ordered them online I was expecting them to be a little more subtle….) He paired the outfit with an apple pendant necklace (for the ‘teacher look’ as he said), a blue stone ring and a black ribbon headband. To me, this outfit is Sporty Spice goes to the office. But to be honest, I don’t mind it!

I’m curious to see if Phil tries to dress me tomorrow morning. I think he’s had a lot of fun this week and I gotta say I’m impressed by what he’s come up with. I didn’t even have to endure anything slutty or frumpy! He knew what I like to wear and put his own spin on it.

This week, the other girls and I have been throwing around the idea of doing the reverse of this challenge and dressing our boyfriends. So you might want to stay tuned for more challenges in the future. But we might have to nickname that challenge “Boyfriend Gets Impeccable Style For One Week”.

Just sayin.

Brandon was really feeling the pressure for this one. Not only have the other guys been really hitting home run outfits, it is also First Friday - a marathon workday for me: from 9am to 10pm.

I was sort of waiting all week for him to choose this skirt, I just had a feeling he would like it and I’ve also always had a hard finding the right shirt to go with it. Brandon got around this problem by using a form fitting dress as the top and adding a fun belt to give it more of a waistline.

I was relieved he didn’t make me wear my sailor hat (what is it with guys and sailor hats… *ahem… Phil?)

Side note: Brandon also had a “back-up” outfit ready in case he couldn’t find the right top for this skirt. Maybe I’ll wear it on Sunday just to finish off the challenge.
God job guys, all in all you’ve proven you have pretty good girlfriend style.

Boyfriend Stylist Challenge: Lauren’s Day 3 Look

Day three and it’s another scorcher here in Richmond so thank GOD Phil put me in a sundress. This is my favorite outfit so far. Phil’s theme? Hipster Summer Picnic. Mmm k…

Anyway, I felt slightly ridiculous wearing a straw fedora around the office and got called a “gangster” almost immediately upon walking in but still, I love this outfit and I felt great in it all day. This is definitely the most “Lauren” of all the looks thus far. Phil also put me in some of my favorite accessories— my wood RVA ring from Quirk and my “L” necklace made by my friend Jenny.

Little nervous for what the last day of the challenge holds tomorrow, since it’s Phil’s last chance to mess with me, but I’m holding out hope that he continues to be more concerned about impressing people than making me look ridiculous. We’ll see…

Day 3 and Kristin’s husband Dave has finally ventured into the world of separates! No more easy sundresses here! Kristin is happy with this “nice cool-ish outfit” and says she’s never put it together before herself. The one thing she’d change about this outfit is adding a belt but otherwise she’s loving the full skirted look (as evidenced by her ballerina pose). We love that Dave fearlessly paired a cobalt top with a yellow floral skirt. And how cute are those shoes?

I forgot about the overall flimsiness of this thrifted Urban dress - another back-of-the-closet find for Brandon. I actually really like this one but wish I didn’t have to use safety pins to keep the buttons secure.

I love that he chose these specific shoes (with red trim and brass buckles), ones that even I shy away from on some plain-jane days. They actually go really well with the red of the dress even though I would have never paired them!

Another adorable summertime look care of Kristin’s husband Dave! With temperatures in Richmond today hitting near 100 degrees, Kristin lucked out with this cute ensemble. And in addition to having Dave dress her for the week, today Kristin kicks off “Me-Made June” which is her challenge to wear one thing she made each day this month. Kristin refashioned an awesome vintage prairie-style dress into this sundress and we absolutely adore it. Well played, indeed, Dave.

Boyfriend Stylist Challenge: Lauren’s Day 2 Look

For Day 2, Phil decided the theme would be “nautical seafarer, but not jaunty.” After making me try on every single skirt I own and also explain to him what chambray is (“I know it’s a word… I just don’t know what it is.”), he settled on this navy blue pencil skirt and blue oxford blouse. He was thisclose to putting me in Sperrys which would’ve been a nice break from heels (since yesterday’s wedges got painful around lunchtime) but instead he picked these cutout oxfords (consequently, my most painful shoes but also one of my favorite pairs). To accessorize, he picked a blue and white stripe belt, my lucky anchor necklace, a bracelet that “resembles buried treasure”, and of course, starfish earrings. Clearly, he really ran with the theme this time. Thankfully, my sailor hat was hidden away in a costume box somewhere or I might be rocking it today. I feel a little slutty secretary on the high seas but all in all, not a bad outfit.

Update: I just walked around a little at lunch. It’s definitely 100 degrees out. I’m definitely sweating in this long sleeved shirt. And my feet definitely hate me.

Brandon really got into the spirit of the challenge this time. I’m pretty sure there’s not one shred of clothing I own left that he hasn’t seen.

This was possibly the last dress hanging in my closet, moved to the very back after a few years of discard. I think it’s a great choice after our big dinner last night, lots of room to move.

Bonus: it also feels just fine on my sunburn.

Boyfriend Stylist Challenge: Lauren's Day 1 Look

Here’s my outfit for Day 1 of the Boyfriend Stylist Challenge. Phil seemed pretty overwhelmed as he started going through my closet the night before— and he quickly refused to even attempt to find anything within my jam packed dresser drawers! Eventually he decided theme dressing is the easiest way to pull an outfit together and settled on an “homage to cowboys” for day one. Thankfully, I don’t own a 10 gallon hat and this little checkered blouse was the best he could do. He paired it with a black skirt and a lot of people asked me throughout the day if it was actually a dress. It was actually a really cute outfit (and one I hadn’t ever put together myself before!) He added a cameo necklace, my favorite owl ring and some brown wedges and I was good to go. Everyone’s reaction at work? “You look… like yourself!” Hey, that’s a good thing right?
